October is National Adopt a Shelter Dog Month. If you are looking for a dog, look in your local shelter. That's where I found my best friend.
Colleen was stuffed in the night deposit box at the Peninsula Humane Society. For some reason, her family didn't want her anymore. I guess they didn't have the guts to turn her in in person.
The next day, the shelter staff processed her and found that the paperwork indicated that the brother of the owner had dropped her off, so they contacted him so they could get a release from the actual owners, who lived in another county. Maybe he'd been at dinner that night, and had finally gotten sick of the way they were neglecting the dog, or maybe they had threatened to have her put to sleep, and he had taken her on his way home. Who knows?
The former owners did sign the release, and the very next day I walked in, looking for a dog.
Colleen lived with me for the next 12+ years, and she was, and will always be, my best girl, my heart dog.
Is your heart dog in the shelter tonight?
