Bridget, i wouldn't be happy with them, you did eveything you could, & much more then most people would, i wish there were more people like you out there.they could have been nicer then they were & should have been, for example, i was refused for a dobermen, because they didn't want to place her in a home with my two rotties.& it was also writen in a not so nice way,they said that my two rotties could not be trusted, & that i should send then to the pound, because i was "crazy" for having two rotties, in my house with my two small children, (4 & 8), i have been to the site of you friends, & think she is doing wonderful work from what i could tell.good luck finding another dog,that will work,(have you looked at akitas? or huskys?, i dont know your kids, but i have found that most are good with childeren when raised right)but please meet the dog first & alow your kids to meet them:),some rescues give two day foster/adopt programs so that you can try out the dog in your dog,again good luck
