:I adopted Sammy, a 15 month old German Shepherd from a local Rescue Society, he was an abuse case. He has only been with us for a few days but we already love him very much. We lost our beloved 9 yr old female Shepherd in March of this year. I was begining to wonder if the whole in my heart would ever be filled again. I would like any info or advice on training shelter dogs. He doesn't know very much, sit and to walk on a leash.

I have very little experience, But what I have learned is to get them into some form of training ASAP. I adopted an american bulldog in september. There is no knowledge of his history. He is a challenge. For the first week we had him, he was a very well behaved, timid dog. But once he was comfy in the home, the real brutus came out. But I would suggest hitting the tips and training forum and get some advice to deal with the abuse background. That will take extra work beyond regular training.

Cindy
GOOD LUCK!
