I agree. All of my pets are rescues, although Baron is the closest one to a shelter rescue. A rescue group rescued him from a kill shelter and I adopted him from the rescue group. People looking for a new pet really are passing up good dogs if they don't explore the shelters and rescue groups.

You can take some solace in the fact that Charlie had a second chance at life with you and had a greyt life with you in a loving home.
