I don't know how many people will read this, if any. But I wanted to let people know how I was treated by a local rescue group (Florida Cocker Spaniel Rescue at: floridacocker.com)

I submitted an application for a NON-Cocker (a bassett mix) from Florida Cocker Spaniel Rescue, gave the history of animals I had in the past, also one about a recent rescue I did for a pregnant lab mix, I took her in to have her puppies, found homes for all the pups--went to take the mother in to get spayed (b/4 I found a home for her). Found out she was heartworm positive. I called literally over 50 shelters/rescue groups, including many lab rescues and got NO help from anyone.

I had to give the stray up b/c my 3 year old was deathly afraid of her. I found a wonderful woman named Marget who would take her in and get her treated and keep her as long as it would take to find a home for her. She is a NO KILL rescue group at: bouvierrescue.com. A friend DONATED $200 to pay for Lucys treatments. Marget was the ONLY person who would help me!!!!!!!!

Meanwhile I thought I would give back to a rescue group and find my family a new dog that was suitable for us. And this is what I get in return............(letter to follow). I hope you will think twice about donating any money to this organization that would be disrespectful and have lack of compassion towards a human and who would attack blindly without knowing all the facts first. And maybe donate to the ONLY person who would help Lucy, again her name is Margret Meier at: bouvierrescue.com

Thank You for listening,
Bridget Snyder

********LETTER FROM NANCY AT FLORIDA COCKER SPANIEL RESCUE GROUP********

Date: Fri, 16 Aug 2002 19:04:49 -0400
>To: bsnyder414@yahoo.com
>From: Nancy
>Subject: COCKER ADOPTION
>
>Bridget - your application has been received and rejected because of
the
>following reasons. Ages of your youngest kids. While you might know
of a
>cocker that does well with kids the majority of cocker do NOT do well
with
>kids contrary to what people think.
>
>Please be aware that if you are going to take the lab to a "shelter"
the
>following is going to happen to her. This will hold true for any
facility
>that you would take her to (humane society, etc.)
>She will be kept for 3-5 days to see if her owner claims her (which
they
>won't) and then they will put her down as well as all of her pups.
These
>places will NOT spay or neuter pups or kittens until they are 3 months
of
>age and there is NO way they are going to keep them there until they
are
>that old. Everyone thinks that the dogs or cats are automatically
going
>into an adoption area and find a home - NOT. I find it troubling that
it
>does NOT bother you at all taking this poor dog to the pound. This
lack
>of compassion is not what we are looking for in a family to adopt one
of
>our kids. You could at least check out Petfinder.com and do a search
to
>find a lab rescue in your area instead of killing her.
>
>Also, the dog would not have access to your furniture
>
>Dog would be crated while alone (we do not allow our dogs to be
crated). \
>
>Also, you seem to have a bad history with your pets. Your Westie ran
away
>- evidently not on a leash when it should be or left outside
unattended
>and your Lab mix was hit by a car - did one of your kids leave a door
>open? You should wait until your youngest kid is at least 4 or 5
before
>getting a dog for the dog's sake. It is a shame that you don't keep
the
>lab stray and teach your kid that the dog will not hurt him - at least
>make it a learning experience and keep the dog alive. I would not
want
>that on my conscience - but some people don't have one.
