: I have a 10 month old airedale I have had since he was 7 weeks old. He is well mannered non aggressive. He and I have been through puppy school. He is not my first dog nore my first airedale. The problem I have is that he loves people and children and when I have him off leash if he sees people he runs at them. I can not call him back until he has greeted the people or scared them. What are some things I might try to break this habit? Can anyone help? Thanks Bob

Hi Bob,
I would try to teach your young man the easy command. I use it a lot when taking my Airedale into nursing homes and schools for therapy work. I used a long light line & dumb bell 10 pound weight & two flat collars. I would snap the long line on to one collar and my leash to another. I would let the leash drag and walk with the dog either in a circle or or to the end of the long line. If the dog gets to excited or to far ahead you would step on the leash and say easy. The dog does not see your hands move so he is not sure where the correction is coming from. When the dog stops or calms down say Good easy. But it is very effective way to teach easy and if you dog is a jumper you can use it to teach your dog off as well. If you have some up that your dog will jump on then have them walk towards your dog. And if your dog jumps step on the leash and say off the dog will have to get down. When he does say good off. Praise is so important. I hope this helps if you have any othe questions just e-mail me. Good luck,
Linda
