:Any double-coated dog needs a bit of help bearing the heat of summer. A good shedding tool (my friends with Australian Shepherds are recommending something called a Coat King) helps with clearing away dead/unwanted underhair while still leaving the guard hairs in place.

Okay, I have no idea where my brain was yesterday. A Coat King with between a #6 and #12 blade actually thins the whole coat, while an undercoat rake takes the loose hair and undercoat. :(
