I understand your point and it is well taken, but at the same time I think you are jumping down my throat unnecessarily. First, you say that I am jumping in without research. You don't really know that, yes, I've been asking questions but I've been asking them to reaffirm other answers to the same questions. I DO know what I am getting into. And Bo, his sire, was a $1000 dog. My friend was friends with the breeder and gave him a better price. Again, lets not jump to conclusions.
The one thing I will definitely claim ignorance to is the paper/registration issue because I've never dealt with that. I think that my friends were/are late with registering the litter. Which would make recieving my papers a little bit harder right?
I've been talking to a breeder in Michigan, Irish Kennels, and he told me quite a bit about Colby's and Bolio, but I wanted some more opinions. I'm not an idiot, I know that "Colby" is a person but I DON'T HAVE THE PAPERS SO I CAN'T TELL YOU THE EXACT NAME COULD I? Lets be fair here. The difference is that I've seen both of the parents papers so I know they exist.
I wanted BASIC information, other than what I've read myself, until I get the papers. There is no need to jump down my throat and insult me or my knowledge of these dogs. You have no idea my experience with dogs, and I understand that you are very protective of the breed but you need new owners, you need people to realize what kind of dogs these are. I feel like you want this to be some private club were only the experienced even get a chance, anyone else is immediately shot down and told that they have no clue and are going to ruin 'your' precious breed.
It doesn't really matter how old I am, I've been researching this breed for three years now. So what, I'm 17, three years is still a long time to research something. I didn't just wake up noe morning and go "oh, i'm giong to buy a pit."
In fact, I've always loved pits, and I've visited different breeders and wasn't very comfortable with them. A good friend and his cousin had to pits, I watched them, fell in love with them, and they had puppies. I would think that it is the perfect context to buy a pit. I know both of the parents well, I know their temperments, I know their strengths and weaknesses.
That is why I said "who cares about papers." Because I know the dogs. That would be like writing off a person because they didn't remember their lineage.
About the nuetering thing, again, I was seeking opinions. I obviously know that if I don't get the papers, if something is messed up then I should get him nuetered, but I also know I still have at least two months before I have to worry about it to begin with.
That is great that you speak your mind and tell it how you see it, but there is no need to insult, especially when you don't have any clue how much I actually know about pits, or dogs in general.
My questions are merely stated to get a better opinion because I talk to A LOT of breeders about Pits. I just like to get many different opinions and then weed out the BS.
My worry about the papers is that they will not get around to registering the litter, which is something I can't control. That doesn't make my dog worthless. In my opinion, a mixed breed can be worth three times the pure bred dog. Aniamls aren't papers, or bloodlines, or registartions. If someone lost their birth certificate, or never bothered look at their family tree, or even an orphan, would you call them a "bad" person, or less of their "breed." Probably not. You would look at their personality before making that kind of judgement huh? My friends had 7 pups, all of which went to good homes, they interviewed and new each person fairly well before selling them the dog. None of those peopel seemed too worried about papers. Two of the pups went to cops and might be starting in the K-9 department. How do you shift the breed from its negative stigma by telling people that the breed is "too difficult for you," or "you have no clue what you are getting into." Good owners make good dogs, regardless of the breed, except for maybe in breeds that are very inbred. Yes, there are certain percautions you have to keep in mind with pits. They are dog aggressive, they are large, strong willed animals, but if you understand that and are willing to deal with it then they aren't impossible.
My dad takes Tyler to church, the dog is incredibly intelligent. He seems to understand which people wouldn't mind him running up to and licking and cuddling and which people would prefer him to k eep a distance. My dad is not quite dog savvy, he only knows what I tell him about the breed and yet he does great with Tyler.
The breed will never get the proper acknowledgement with peopel scaring them away. Every perseon who pets Tyler I explain that he is a pit bull. Every person then says that they've never realized how good a pit bull could actually be, and they only know what they've seen on the news. I never say "Yes, but you shouldn't ever even consider one because you are probably toostupid to put years and years into researched the breed and then training it properly."
I live right outside of Detroit. There so thousands of examples of pit bulls in very bad situations, now I know, hands on, 9 that are a wonderful exampe of the breeds potentional. Papers or not right?
