I own a American Staffordshire Terrier, I got him at 12 weeks of age. He is a great dog and is now 18 months old, not long after getting him I discovered dog parks which I though was a great way to socialize him, he was great he played and played and played not one problem, then at about six months he started to show aggression towards puppies, the first instantance was with a brown lab when we were leaving the dog park, the lab was 6 months old and my dog cody bit at him when when the lab came to sniff him, ever sense he has been this way towards what appears to be dogs under the age of one. After the incident with the lab I continued taking him to the dog park but closey watched his behavior which and kept having to leave because he would get aggressive with the younger dogs. I thought maybe taking a break from the dog park might help so we didn't go for a couple months. On our first visit back he was fine didn't get aggressive with any other dogs, on the second trip there was a six month old border collie that came running into the park my dog gave chase, then the chase stopped they began to wrestle and as they were wrestling my dog started to growl a angry growl not a playful growl so I grabbed his collar and pulled him away to put him on the leash and leave, when i have to do this he flips starts growling even more and trying to get back to the dog he is having a problem with. He worries me if I don't step in which one trainer told me not to do he growls aggressively and bites at the other dog stopping short never actually biting them but I always step in because I am afraid that the situation could be come worse and I don't want him to hurt another dog. Any suggestions, he is fine with any dogs that are over a year old it appears its just dogs under a year old, and the I trainer I mentioned above was a click trainer I was referred to by the petcare forum. If any info is needed to help with advice on this problem or if anyone knows a trainer that specializes in the American Staffordshire Terrier breed that is located in maryland please email me at bdg0296@aol.com
