:I have a pet aussie that was supposed to be AKC but the breeders' had a falling out so I have little info on the sire. The dam is an AKC show dog. The sire is a champeon herder, non AKC. My question is, is a non AKC aussie worth less than an AKC aussie? I paid $350 for her expecting AKC papers. She said I can register her with the CKC, what ever that is.
:Thanks,

Let me see about answering you. First of all, the CKC is the Canadian Kennel Club (or another CKC is the Continental Kennel Club if they are still in existance). You would have to ask your breeder which he or she is talking about. There is also the National Stock Dog Registry, which has many lines of working Aussies. What is the name of the sire of your pup? Can you ask the dam's owner? I think, even though the owners of the two had a falling out, the dam's owner should provide you with the information about the sire and his owner (and then you may be able to get in contact with the sire's owner on your own). It's been years since I registered a litter with AKC, so I'm now cloudy on the procedure.... I think the dam's owner sends in a paper with dam and sire registered names and the number, and colors, sexes of puppies, but I honestly don't remember any more. (There is also something called an ILP, which is often sought for dogs that were shelter-taken whose pedigree isn't known. Apply to the AKC website and ask the routine for registering a litter and for an ILP.) It's very possible your dog's sire is with the NSDR, rather than AKC.
Excellent herding dogs from solid working lines are just as valuable as their show line sibs, though probably a bit less pricey. (Then again, puppy mill puppies are often every bit as pricey as a dog from show or herding lines, and are often from bad stock.) It may depend solidly on the line, and the area. What you paid is not exhorbitant by any means. Do you have a picture?
