:As a basset owner I would suggest that it is because bassets think their people, and act accordingly! Okay, okay, just about every dog owner will say that his or her dog thinks he is a person, but bassets are about the most undog-like dogs I have ment. Very independent, very lazy, and with personality up to wazooh :-) When naming a clumsy, droopy eared, lovable basset puppy, you just can't help thinking of a person name, instead of Fido or Lucky.

Shoot, Percy...my grandmother's basset from my childhood, was anything but "lazy." Granted, he did things in his own time frame, but that dog was BUSY. Percy "replanted" flowers, redid the fence line...buddied around w/me...he had an AGENDA! (G)
