New Owner "general advice"

I have just purchaced a Beagle pup, I've owned hunting dogs my whole life such as labs. I love Beagles and have plenty of time for them since I work 6 days on and have 4 days off and only 8 hr. shifts, My wife works morning shift and I work second shift, so there is someone in the house at all times. I have a medium size fenced back yard. I would like to ask other owners some general advice on my new family member, Since I've only owned retrievers, some general Do's and Dont's would be great
