My mom lives in the country, and many people keep beagles. One very nice little female was wandering the neighborhood about a yr ago, and the next door folks took her in. Well, she had puppies about a month ago. (sigh)

I was visiting my mom this past holiday weekend, and the litter is down to 3 hapless pups. They've left mom & the pups in a fenced in area w/a tiny dog house...and an enormous pile of "junk." There were pieces of broken glass...their nice pool...and not a water or food dish in sight.

The neighbor's oldest boy told me they'd already given 4 of the pups away. How on earth could the pups be old enough to leave their mom?

The more I know about people, the more I prefer dogs.
