:I am curious if beagles are Okay living outside...Most say it's best to keep them indoors, but we have cats. Any thoughts?
:Bana

Well Bana, if there was a simple yes/no answer to this question, what would we have to talk about??

There are groups of people who fervently believe that dogs DO/DO NOT need to be housed in the home. Both make excellent points, and both are passionate about their viewpoints.

IT DEPENDS is the only answer I've ever come up w/.

It depends on the climate where you live. Some dogs just cannot handle extremes of temperature or humidity.

It depends on the amt of yard space & living situation you can provide for the animal outside/inside. Putting a busy breed dog w/exercise needs in an apt...or a small yard is not kind to the animal. Leaving a Yorkie outside in a 3acre fenced area isn't kind either. Is the yard an interesting envirnoment where the dog won't get bored and/or lonesome?

It depends upon the ANIMAL. Some dogs prefer to be inside w/their humans, others want outside to romp & play, others want the best of both worlds.

It depends upon whether you are dedicated enough to routinely walk & exercise w/your indoor dog, and to socialize w/your outside dog. In your case, you must be careful that the dog learns to coexist peacefully w/cats.

Now specifically beagles...I have only had neighbor's w/beagles, I've never owned one myself. One beagle, Tucker is an inside dog. He walks many times a day w/his owner & seems the picture of health & happiness. He's friends w/my dog. Another beagle, near where my Mom lives is an outside dog. She has a tiny dog house & according to my mother rarely interacts w/the family. Another pair of beagles is owned by internet friends. These two romp outside at will, but remain inside w/the family to sleep/eat/relax.

Hope that helps...
