Contemplating a beagle

Hi, there...a local shelter/rescue organization has private adoption of a 1 1/2 year beagle who was a pampered pet and very well taken care of but was relinguished due to a move and the absolute inability to take the little guy. I have seen photos and will be chatting more with the foster parent tonight -- but he is neutered and obedience trained. The only thing I am considered about is leaving him alone during the day while I work; I know beagles have a reputation for barking and that concerns me. I work close and can come home at lunch but there may be some days when I won't be able to. Any general info on barking in beagles, as well as any idea about possible depression in beagles (his master/family has left) would be much appreciated. Thanks! Lynne
