Hi there! I have the same problem with one of my dogs. There are natural products that many people find helpful for such occasions, one of them being Rescue Remedy. They have a calming effect. Check with your vet before you give anything to your dog, but ask about these products. I have found it helpful to close the drapes/blinds so the dog doesn't see the flashes, but that doesn't keep out the sound. You might want to consider crating your dog during the worst of the fireworks. I really have a problem getting my border collie mix to even go outside to do her business when there are loud noises such as fireworks. I try to keep the stereo/TV/radio or something on at a louder than normal volume to help diffuse the noise. Sounds silly, but my dog relaxes more with jazz music in the background. You might want to try a rawhide chew or something for the dog to keep busy with. If your neighbors are going to have this party, though, I would recommend leaving if you can. You might want to send them a little card letting them know that you have to leave because the fireworks traumatize your dog. They won't cancel their party, but they might feel a tinge of guilt about inconveniencing you. The problem is where to for the 4th of July that you won't encounter fireworks. Some dogs are not bothered by fireworks, but it is very traumatizing to those that are. I can certainly emphathize with you, but it's a hard thing to avoid since so many people buy fireworks. Please feel free to post a picture of your dog in the photo gallery. Once you post it there, you can include it in board posts. Good luck to you.

:The fireworks on New Years Eve reminded me of the severe anxiety our pet Bichon experiences whenever fireworks are displayed. To make matters worse, our across the street neighbor has a huge 4th of July party with firewords in his backyard. This year we may have to leave our home to protect our dog from this anxiety. If anyone has any suggestions, please respond.
