:Dear Ms. Keith,
:I've been feeding her 60% minced chicken necks and backs, and 40% ground veggies. I also add a supplement to her evening meal.
:If you need more specifics, let me know. I really appreciate your help.
Sorry I didn't respond a bit sooner, I had the flu!
I'm assuming you are feeding something other than 60 percent backs and necks, 40 percent veggies, and supplements? Because that is not a balanced diet. It's low in protein and too high in bone.
If that IS exactly her diet, then I would instantly add more MEAT, plus some egg and yogurt. A prey animal is about 10 percent bone or less. A chicken back is 50 percent bone. If something that is 50 percent bone is making up 60 percent of the diet, then as you can see, bone is about 30 percent of the diet. That is way too high.
There is nothing wrong with using chicken necks and backs. They are easy to obtain and inexpensive. You just have to ALSO use meat, organ meat, yogurt, egg, and of course, supplements.
Let me know if that's all you are feeding, or if there is more!
