:I agree. IMO there are two issues here: Proper handling, which everyone should understand whether they have pets or not, and food quality, which to me should be regulated long before the products get to my house, regardless of whether or not I am going to feed them cooked or raw.
:We have a crisis in this country of an unsafe food supply, and the answer is NOT to tell people to cook their meat more and use more bleach in the kitchen. It is for consumers to stop voting with their pocketbooks by buying contaminated food in the first place!

No, I haven't read that - but I do come from Australia - and buy only human grade meat for my dog and we tend to be lucky with our meat quality anyway (there are some benefits to being so isolated with lots of spaces!). I'm even looking into the option of buying from an organic farm which guarantees no chemicals/hormones/antibiotics have been used on their animals etc. And, if you buy in bulk with your friends, it doesn't work out that much more expensive. Worth the peace of mind IMO.
I agree about substandard food supplies - I can't understand why people seem to think "buy a cheaper product, oh but then lets use all these chemicals etc to make it better". I also can't understand why our pets should get a lesser standard of food. Yes, they will eat bits we find distateful, I don't mean that - but the people that feed meat that could be "dodgy" to their pets... grr!!
Anyway, I'll get off my soapbox now :)
