:I am really sad to see that people still think that there is a place for these things in dog training. It is a great many years since I used even a check chain, and ran very successful classes using flat collars or (my preference)harnesses. it is much more rewarding to train a dog through understanding and communication than to use devices which can do far more harm than good. Would you put such a thing on your child to teach it how to behave? please refer to the work of Karen Pryor or Turid Rugaas if you want to train your dog as a friend to work in partnership with you instead of an enemy to be overcome.

This subject has been beaten to death and it appears that never the twain shall meet. Apparently you have not done your reseach which very clearly shows (many studies done in Europe and the US) that pinch/prong collars are one of the safest ways to train dogs. They cause much less injury than the choke chain and flat collars whe dogs are allowed to pull & pull on their leashes causing tracheal injuries. However the biggest problem, as I see it through out this forum, is that those who us the clicker training, positive reinforcement, training that does not include corrections of any kind feel that their way is the only way and that's that. The rest of us are morons who cause pain and suffering to our dogs JUST because we use a different type of training. If said people looked into it further they would find that very much of our training IS positive reinforcement and praise and that training and use of differenttypes of collars is tailored to the individual dog and handler. I do not condemn your way of training and I wish you would stop condemning mine. Please check the archives of this forum as there is much discussion about this very subject. Nancy
