Fantastic. I enrolled in a class today, if anything, it'll give more bonding time b/t us.

She's great 99% of the time, it's just other dogs that excite her, sometimes other people. I might enlist my friends to help me w/ that though. I think if she continues to go to my mates even when I call her, if they deny her attention, she'll realize there's always a reward in obeying me.

So frustrating, yet so rewarding.

:PBP! (Please be patient!) LOL! Yes, BC's are very intellegent but very soft. If I even look at my BC gal and say no quietly she is crushed! I highly recommend carrying treats with you, all the time, then when you recall, give a treat this is positive. If however, your BC stays a few steps away and you scold, this gives the impression that when asked to come she will get scolded :( I also cannot say enough about obedience classes/training. I really do not think you and your BC will find them boring. Give it a try!

:

::I've got a BC (16 months) that has been wonderful. I've always heard the word "intelligence" in the same sentence as BCs, but I had no idea how quickly mine would pick things up. She's rescued, had heartworms, tapeworms, whipworms, kennel paw, kennel cough, and then some! But she's doing great now, and I couldn't be happier.. except...

::Yesterday, she isn't coming back to me reliably. Before, she was quite good at coming when called, but now, severe distractions like other dogs will cause her to run away (3x in 2 days, 3 separate sessions). Once she realizes that she disobeyed my command, she'll stay 2 steps ahead of me (normally, she walks off the left heel) to avoid punishment. Once i catch up w/ her, a scolding, then outdoor time is over and we're back in my flat.

::I've toyed w/ the idea of the shock collar (hate the idea of pain as a tool for instruction. BC's should be smart enough to know when you're not happy, which should be sufficient). I've enrolled in an obedience class, which I feel is going to be boring, as she's well beyond the basics.

::Any ideas on how to effectively teach a BC off the lead? Am I being too impatient?
