She is a stubborn girl. I would suggest you not let her loose anywhere. For the back yard, is there any way you can stay out with her and keep her on a long lead, maybe a 20' lead. Let the lead go slack as she wanders. Call her periodically and if she doesn't come, rein in the leash and put her in a sit. The old phrase "rinse and repeat" rings true here as this dog will need repetition to decide it is worth her while to respond to the come command. Whenever she does come, praise her jubilantly. Treats are not necesary, but hug her, pet her, sing her praises, whatever works. You might also consider enrolling in dog obedience training. It is usually very helpful to both dog and owner and a trained outsider can usually spot areas where your commands can be more effective. I know that when I took one of my dogs to training recently, I had to have a long lead to practice the come command and it did help. Good luck to you and keep us posted.

:Hi
:We have a 4 month old Boxer named Hailey. We are trying to train her while she is young. We have tought her to sit, lay down, and heel when walking fairly well. She isn't perfect but who is? We CAN NOT get her to come when we call her while she is outside. She simply will not come. It has become a problem especially when you are in a hurry and are trying to get her in the kennel pen. We tried the leash and making her sit and then walking away and calling her, and she will come while on the leash, but when you let her off, she won't come for anything, not even treats. Any help would be appreciated.
