When crated their bodies are 'at rest.' Everything slows down. When they're active, the internal works pick up the pace. Activity makes urine, in particular.
My adult dogs are fine at home all day when I don't take them to work with me... no accidents, even though I'm occasionally gone for as long as nine hours (no, they're not crated for nine hours, just hanging around the house). But when they're working WITH me, they need to go out every hour.
