:I recently adopted a year old supposedly poodle/papillon mix from the original owner. She bought it from a mall pet store. The dog is 23 pounds. Is it possible to get a dog that big from a papillon and (I assume) a miniature poodle, even a large one? I doubt the poodle parent was a standard poodle!

Yes, it's possible, because people who breed for pet stores don't breed to standard, so they don't care if the parents are suppposed to be a certain weight(unless breeding for those rare inconceivable 'teacups'.) And sadly, been proven a number of times, coming from puppymills don't mean that your dog is what the papers or clerk said it was. .

Enjoy her/him tho!
