I wouldn't go so far as to call it 'routine' but racing greyhound breeders in the USA are increasingly outcrossing to Irish and Australian lines using frozen semen. There are very specific protocols that they use so that the semen stays frozen and is still viable when it's ready to be used. I'm sorry I don't have any links for you... I'm more involved with the adoption side of the house than breeding, but the thought that goes into breeding racing stock is quite fascinating and VERY different than AKC dogs. It's an education in itself.
