Male Sterility

Has anyone ever had a male stud tested for sterility? I have a stud dog that will be 10 this yr. He has sired 6 litters. The last one when he was 8+, 5 puppies in that litter. The same bitch came back for another breeding a yr later on a quick breeding, owner wasn't sure what day she was in....had 15-30 min ties but this did not result in a litter. On her next heat we tried again, good long ties but no puppies. We tested the dog for a sperm check (not count-manually, we did not use a bitch for collection) and the vet said there was no sperm to mention. He had no explaination or if this was recent or happened after the last successful litter. Has anyone ever had a stud that "recovered" from a sterility problem? If so what did you do to solve the problem?
