Thanks for your insights. I have a lot of respect for this breeder, who from all appearances cares about the dog and the breed. I was hoping that someone would have a reasonable explanation for why this is being done, and maybe this breeder is planning to make this the last litter - I don't know.

It now looks like the third litter is is coming even sooner, with whelping in January and breeding in May. Do you believe this will affect the health of the puppies in the third litter - the ones that survive? Or is it just a survival rate issue?
