Pain from labor will sometimes cause a bitch to attack her pups. She'll do much better the next time she is bred. Virgin bitches sometimes do not know what is going on and need a little encouragement until their hormones kick in.

:Hi there everyone,

:Honeys temp dropped again to 98 F, and she had the puppies that day. She gave birth on day 63, and it was an experience!

:She was digging like crazy, from 9pm then at 1.30am she started pushing. The first pup was born at 2.18 am she showed no interest in severing the cord or breaking the sac so we did it, and she was frightened of it, and she ran away. We followed her downstairs and showed her the puppy, but she bit it. We held her head as the puppy nursed, then we put the little male puppy in the incubator box. She had 9 more puppies the last was born at 11.30am. We continued to hold her as the puppies fed every hour (as she bit another pup), then later that day she started looking concearned, and she accepted the pups. Take a look at the pups at my website.
