Hi I am terribly sorry about the bite incident. Dogs should be trained to never threaten children under any circumstance. They should be smart enough to understand children are pups and shouldn't be agressive towards them.

However, for the potential chessy owner: I recomend getting an adult dog that has been good around other dogs. Our rescue chessy has gotten between my children and strangers. Most impressive, we have endangered Mexican wolves comming onto our property regularly and he is very good about trying his best to run them off. He stays with my children when they are outside and I am grateful that he is always with them. Just be choosey and careful. Puppies require a lot of training and chessy's at puberty can be difficult. I have had mine, 6 years old, for 9 months and he was a used dog I have never had a better dog in my life.
good luck to both of you.
: I feel that getting a Chesapeke is a very big decision. Our experience is not a fun one. We have a 7 year old daughter that was bitten by her grandfathers chesapeke bay retriever after being in the home for not even 2 minutes. Her grandfather picked her up to give her a hug set her down and the dog attacked her. She had 57 stitches in her face and is still undergoing plastic surgery to clean up some of the scaring. That is my opinion on the dog. Good Luck!
