Welcome! I am a firm believer in obedience classes. I have taken each one of my dogs through obedience classes and they sure help you and your dog understand each other. I also use lots of treats and positive training methods with my dogs. Patiences and consistancy is a must. You do not need to train for more than 5 to 10 minutes. If your Chi does a sit, stay, down, come. . .once PRAISE him! Then stop formal training.
:I have a 11 month old chihuahua who needs training. We taught him to sit and lay down using treats, but if he sees that we don't have treats, he ignores us and he mixes up his sits and downs. We're using a choke chain collar right now, but he acts really weird when he's on it. All docile and quiet which is very unlike him, so I think he's scared of it. Any suggestions on training? I want him to sit and lay down on command. Also, when we call him he runs, and he growls at us when we tell him "no" or "bad dog". It's not a real growl, it's more of those complaining rumbling things. Don't know how to decribe it. Thanks for any help you can give.
