Max always used to lick his feet, and most of the times, there was something the matter with them. When i stretched his toes apart a little, he would start to lick and sniff. the base of the toenail was a little moist, and painful to him. just try and rub some vaseline inbetween the toes, if u cannot find the "wound" just rub vaseline inbetween all his or her toes. any little wound will heal rightaway. sorry for my bad english, but i just try to be of any help. Good luck and be nice to the best dog in the world; cocker spaniels!!!!!!
