Shivering, trembling, quivering

Has anyone else's cocker had trouble with shaking, shivering, trembling, quivering, teeth chattering? My 10-year-old black, male has recently begun having episodes of shivering for no apparent reason. Despite the shivering, he doesn't seem fazed by what's going on -- his eyes don't get glassy, he doesn't wimper and when it's over he's his normal self. Sometimes the shivering if followed by strange bursts of short breaths, almost like he's hyperventilating, but again he seems unfazed by what's going on. He's also begun to drink a lot more water.

Needless to say, I'm trying to find a diagnosis and treatment. My vet did a bunch of tests and said it's not kidney disease, diabetes or thyroid problems. Any ideas?
