Any changes in environment can and will cause emotional stress. These transitions are usually made with ease. Dogs are amazingly good at adaptation. Stress will manifest itself in various ways. Some include chewing, lack of energy control, (i.e.)lack of focus, whining, barking, scratching, bathroom problems...etc.
Tips for an easy transition:
1. Buy a kennel for the dog, keep him there while at work.
-this will avoid chewing stress and loss of furniture
2. Be positive, consistent, and persistant at all times with your guidance.
3. Regulate food and water for bathroom regulation.
4. Make sure that his mouth is open and his tail is relaxed.
-if not, praise him with much positive energy until this occurs
In conclusion, there is no way to predict the future course of a chaotic system such as psychology. Most problems can be avoided by preemptive measures. Do not coddle or use too much affection with him as this reinforces insecurities. If this advice is too non-specific, contact a LISCENSED professional animal behaviorist in your area to handle YOUR specific case.
Good Luck!
