I have found that if you use tea tree oil (but not from Australia, it is too strong for dogs and could harm them, you need the kind from New Zealand) dilute it with lavender oil and apply 2 to 3 times a day. It will clear up the crusty problem and keep the flies away. Be sure to keep your dogs area clean also.
