...so finding the correct food for your dog can be tough. Everyone's suggestions are great. Some basic "rules" I use to find a good food for my dogs: 1) look to what the dog is bred for (in your case bird hunting so chicken probably is a good idea for your particular breed), 2) Make a full protein source the first thing on the ingredient list. 3) Avoid corn if possible (especially corn gluten). 4) Avoid "partial food items" in the first 5 ingredients (brewers rice or anything with "mash") 5) by-product should not be in the first 5 ingredients 6) if by-products are on the list, make sure the animal source is listed and not generic like "meat" or "poultry" 7) Grains tend to cause allergies in dogs, but (I'm not a vet) that doesn't sound like your problem. Are you feeding the "recommended amount" on the package? Too often that amount is too high and will cause the problems you are seeing. 8) Keep the amount of preservatives to a minimum. 9) Buy the best food you can afford. If you can't have the whole meal a "great" food, then buy as much of the "great" food you can afford and mix with a second best. These seemingly more expensive foods actually don't cost that much more overall since they are more concentrated your dog eats less. PS- I don't work for a food company. I'm just an over-cautious dog food critic.
