And also remember to beware of all you read on the internet. Many of the reports on Rimadyl were made by owners of dogs who were already very much compromised. Any number of things, including the Rimadyl could cause death. The company is required to count adverse effect reports even if later the death was proven to be caused by something else. These statistics are not terribly reliable.
Incidentally, in Britain, the #1 reason why people need liver transplants is.... TYLENOL! In the US, it's right up there too, particularly when taken with alcohol. Rimadyl was marketed as a human drug in Europe for several years but was pulled because of lack of sales, not safety. It couldn't compete with more established drugs such as ibuprofen, naproxen, etc. If you have concerns about Rimadyl and your dog, run a blood profile and make sure the liver is functioning well. If he's looking at needing it long term, it's best to run bloodwork every 6 months or so. I wouldn't be to worried, but be educated.
