:I would like to keep any medication for my dog to a minimum. But we are coming up on the time to get heartguard. I did read the previous message regarding a two month window. Just wondering if this is something that is a necessary evil or not needed. I do know that I am in a fairly high level for heartworm, but from what I understand it is a mosquito borne illness and well we had a frost already which usually kills them. So I have like 1 week before month is up and 5 weeks before 2 month window is up. Any suggestions and comments are welcome.

Cindy, this is pretty much always a judgement call. If I lived in a high heartworm area, I would give the Safeheart dose of Interceptor (Safeheart) to my dogs once every 7 weeks. This would leave me a one week window in case I forgot. I would give it and keep the dog with me for several hours, to make sure he or she did not throw up.

That's just me. Your mileage may vary.
