:If the bladder infections are reccuring, it may be that his bladder is not shaped quite right... surgical correction of this can help, but it's not a really common problem. I am not a vet, but my understanding is that Clavamox or amoxicillin are good for Bladder infections, because the kidneys concentrate a LOT of the drug in the urine in the process of eliminating it from the body. Tetracycline antibiotics (ex. Doxycycline) are also effective.

:This is from a human textbook on herbal medicine, so check with your vet on what dosages are appropriate for animals. It recommends a combination of Echinacaea, beta-sitosterol, and alpha-tocopherol-acetate for chronic inflammation of the bladder lining and disturbances of bladder function. If you can get to someone who practices traditional Chinese medicine on animals, they will probable have some good suggestions.

:I just looked up antibiotics for treatment of bladder infections and cephazolin is not listed for oral use. Also, cephalosporins are frequently resistant to treatment. That is from a human textbook (Campbell's Urology) but there is no reason why it should be any different in a dog. Sorry I am referencing all human books, but I'm at school and the veterinary textbooks that the university has were outdated back in the Carter Administration, much less now. I could put together a very entertaining list of excerpts from those books. :)

:Good luck!

:Lynn
