I know that in some cases, diet can make a huge difference -- omega-3 fatty acids are important (now being used for treating schizophrenia more and more), and with dog food, I think that there are lots of things in (or not in) dog food that can contribute to mental problems. I suspect some of these dogs have multiple nutritional deficiencies. Heck, when I was traiing dogs, many of them responded to just eliminating corn from the diet.

For some dogs, homeopathy may be able to help. It works on an energetic level, and I have seen lots of (positive) psycological changes while treating my own dog with this modality. It is tough to find a knowledgable practitioner though.
