:My dog just had a tumor removed close to the urethral opening that was causing frequent urination and straining. The doctor said the pathology shows its a fast growing cancer and even though he took it all out, chances are good it will grow back. I feel like I need to do something for her if possible. Is there any food substances that can act as a "natural chemo" that might give her a chance? She's a very active happy dog with no other ailments. Thanks, Brenda Toodlesadvice@cs.com
The first thing to do is to take her off commercial foods and put her on a raw meat and bone, carbohydrate-free diet. Cancer cells need glucose as an energy source, so eliminating all carbohydrates will, at the very least, slow down the cancerous growth. You could also add to her diet flaX seed oil and cottage cheese, whey protein, turmeric, ginger, and garlic. Some effective approaches include stimulating the dog's immune system, starving the cancer cells, restricting blood flow to the cancer, amd increasing antioxidants. It would be best to consult a holistic veterinarian for specifics.
