:I have a black and tan miniture dachshund who is 9 yrs old. He is loosing his black hair only. This is mainly on his ears, nose and tail. We took him to the vet who did a biopsy. The results indicated a disease called Moderate Follicular Hyper-Keratosis with multi focal intra-follicular melanin. The vet said it was a rare condition and didn't know if there was any treatment. He is going to check with some colleagues.

Dachshunds are quite susceptible to hormonal dysfunction. You can find a holistic vet by searching the AHVMA directory at www.AHVMA.org. I have never seen this problem in my own practice.
