:Dr. Tobin, are you familiar with Familial Shar-Pei Fever/Swollen Hock Syndrome? I was wondering if you knew of any homeopathic or other treatment for dogs when this happens. My own dog, Nattie, is 14 and her fevers tend to be mild (under 105 degrees), and last only about 12 hours, but she is currently experiencing an episode that has been going on for about 30 hours now, although she is better today than yesterday.
I have treated only one such case, which responded well to homeopathic Graphite 30c. The dog may have responded well because the remedy fit the dog, not necessarily the disease. This disease has a large immune component, and I suspect that it is due in large part to vaccinations. Once again, my recommendations on vaccinations are to avoid them, but if the animal must be vaccinated, give the distemper/parvo combo one time at 12 weeks, and then never again. Rabies vaccination should be given to abide by the law. Other vaccines are either unnecessary or ineffective.
