The ideal candidate should be trainable as a guard dog, in addition to being well tempered, and great with kids, family and properly introduced friends.

Have never heard of an Alaskan Wolfhound, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist! As for well disciplined- most dogs can be if trained properly.
Training and teaching are the key words. Good luck!
