Whenever my six year old grandson and year old granddaughter visit my seven year (spade female)old smooth coated Collie seems to behave maternally. She will unearth old bones to present to the children and run to get toys which she installs in the middle of their play area. I questioned her behavior until it dawned on me that she might be attempting to participate in their care.
On the downside, she becomes unusually aggressive if strangers approach the yard while her kids are present. Is my understanding of this behavior correct?
