Thanks, Tasha. I'll certainly check out those websites and let you know what happens. This orange discoloration is really a mystery- I appreciate your help!

::There are two problems: a) Chelsea is so high strung and anxious- she stares at the cat incessantly and bites at him whenever she gets the chance. Her feet and beard have even turned an orange/peach color that is very noticeable.
::Could this be due to stress? Or the glucosamine supplement they give her? (Its a brown, root beer flavored liquid) My Dad is beside himself, thinking Chelsea may be very ill.
::b) How can this strained relationship between Chelsea and the cat improve? Chelsea literally stares and shakes for hours on end. The cat is very relaxed and doesn't react badly towards the dog at all. I'm about to suggest they search for prozac or some other medication to calm her down. Please help!

:Hmmm, if just Chelsea's beard was turning orange, I'd check out the possible food coloring added to the glucosamine formula. But feet? I don't know. Your parents could try Bach's Rescue Remedy (found at GNC, for one place) which is a bunch of flower essences and a calmative. A couple or three drops on the tongue and in 20 minutes you will see a calming effect. But it isn't long lasting - better for things like thunderstorms and fireworks, which don't last for hours and hours. Bach's is also found on the net by putting Bach's Flower Essences into your browser.

:There are ways to socialize a dog with a cat BUT....some dogs just don't do well with them. Check out this URL (http://www.doggiedoor.com/doghouse/dogscatq.shtml) It has some information about introducing dogs and cats (and there is a link to another dog/cat relations page on the right). The Denver Dumb Animal League also has a helpful article on dog/cat introductions (about half-way down the page is the dog/cat section, but some of the steps from above (feeding the animals on either side of a baby-gate for instance) are the same techniques to use with dog/cat introductions. This URL (copy & paste into browser) is: http://www.ddfl.org/behavior/catintro.htm

:Hope this helps.
