There is a dog who frequents the park where I take my boys. His owner was told that he was a lab/beagle when they adopted him. At 9 months old, it is now very obvious what he is... Great Dane/Greyhound! Talk about an oops. His owners wouldn't trade h im for all the tea in China now. When I have a very young pup, the first thing that people ask me is "What is she?" With tiny mixed breed pups it is nearly impossible to tell. I usually say something like a "Purebred American yellow dog". Shelters are often required by their record keeping software to assign a breed or mix, and these are often haphazard at best. My corgi mix was listed as "Chow Basset" when I got him... he's corgi/sheltie and 100% herding dog. I'd love to see a picture.
