My suggestion would be to get at least one other opinion before proceeding with surgery. You certainly don't want the poor dog's hip to dislocate, but there may alternative treatments, even alternative surgeries. Hip dysplacia is not uncommon in German shepherds and German shepherd mixes, but this puppy is pretty young to have a bad case of it already. Did you get this puppy from a pet store? Sorry your little guy is having so many problems.

:On 1-29-2003 my 15month old puppy and I where play in the snow and his left back leg got dislocated and I help put it back, had happen three time in 40 mins that night. I called my vet; he was still in and told me to bring Benjamin in. He took x-rays that night. I was so socked to find out he had hip dysplasia very badly in his left hip and has some but little damage of arthritis in his right leg. Vet has him on Rimadyl for pain and also on SYNOVI G3 Glucosamine which he will be on for the rest of his life. Vet advice me to have surgery on the hip Femoral Head resection, we can wait a while and try pain management but his advice was to have the surgery and not to wait to long, he said no long then a week. has anyone had this done to there dog and how is the dog doing and is there and problems as the dog gets old to beware of I am concerned in my puppy as he gets older. He is a shepherd and I think South Carolina mix he weighs 45lbs or a little under. We have had Benjamin for 11 months. I do know a lot about Arthritis my Maxie rest his soul had it very badly, but the hip dysplasia is some thing that I know little about and the surgery I am concerned about. Any help or info and advice would be a help. Please P.s. Just wanted you all to know (About putting the leg back in place its not like anyone thinks that I hurt him. my little dog some times pops her leg up and can not get it down with out stretching her straight my vet has advice me how to do it. It happens because she is little when it started she was check and x-rayed and nothing. It’s just something that happens. So I did not hurt Benjamin, when I did this) Signed Love For Benjamin
