Giant breeds should NEVER eat puppy food.

The ONLY exception is that Eagle formula.
Kibbles should be 21-23% max protein, and about 12% fat. Do not supplement with calcium.

I too prefer a raw diet. You don't see the bone and joint problems or bloat with raw fed dogs.

Congrats on your Newfie! I just love them. There is an author named Kymythy Schultze who has a great book out called "Natural Nutrition for Dogs and Cats". It's a good overview of raw feeding, although there are quite a few methods. And she has Newfies.
