I just want to clarify, you mean for your DOGS, right? Onions are not toxic to humans. ;)

My meatloaf recipe doesn't call for onions, so I would just leave them out. In pot roast, I use carrots, celery, tomatos, potatos, garlic, and herbs. While garlic does have some of the same problems as onions, you'd have to eat more than even an Italian dog is likely to eat to cause problems.
