:This is a picture of my darling 16 year old Beagle, Jake.
:He is slowly recovering from Canine Vestibular Disease. This is a disease that vets know very little about and they also don't know how they get it either.
:It is a disease of older dogs. It's basically a bad inner ear infection and it can strike any old dog.
:He was extremely badly affected, his head was permanently tilted to the left side and he was unable to walk. He had a terrible stigma in both eyes and they darted from side to side. He looked awful. He would just lay there one one side and also just wee and poo where he was because he couldn't move. We agonised about having him euthanised but decided not to yet.
:We bought him home from the vets and nursed him for a week and a half and now he has stood on his own again and taken a few steps also. He wags his tail again and looks so much better.
:This is a horrible disease in respect to the sight of the animal with it. I was shocked as hell and devastated when I saw him and one could jump to the conclusion that he has a stroke and also I wonder how many dogs are put down because of this disease and people thinking they will never recover.
:While my little man isn't out of the woods totally yet, if my 16 year old Beagle can pull through then so can many younger dogs.
:You just have to nurse them and care.
Ah, that's really heartwarming that he is recovering! Kudos to your nursing and love and to Jake's spirit.
