:My older greyhound has a heating pad under a rug in his crate. It works for him, but if you think there's a snowball's chance in hell of him chewing on the cord, don't even try it. There is a product ou there I believe by the name of "SnuggleSafe" that is a heating pad that you microwave and it stays warm for something like 8 hours. Another option is to fill some old socks (make sure there are no holes in them first :) with rice or wheat and tie them off. You can microwave them and they stay warm for a good while.

Great ideas, Lynn! Have you thought of using glucosamine/chondroitin for his joints? It will take a few weeks to see major improvement, but many dogs DO improve. I have a dysplastic dog (both hind hips, though the right hip is weaker). G/C has helped her a lot. I live in MD by the Chesapeake Bay and it is quite moist here. Also, there is something called Fresh Factors (www.springtime.com)which I know several people with elderly and stiff dogs have used with great success.
